Turin, 12 Oct. (LaPresse) – “The world of refereeing is deeply divided; I will have to do my utmost to try and bring it together.” So said FIGC commissioner Giovanni Malagò, speaking on ‘Radio Anch’Io Sport’ on Rai Radio 1 the day after Francesco Massini was elected to lead the Italian Referees’ Association. “The problem with young referees is real, and it’s a very serious issue; there have been incidents of physical assaults on young referees, and this does nothing to encourage those who wish to pursue this kind of career,” he continued. “And there’s a budget problem: I arrived at the end of June and the 2026 budget had already been set, and it wasn’t particularly generous. I’m pulling out all the stops to try and find funding to do what we believe is a very important thing.”
