Milan, Oct. 26 (LaPresse) – The Giuseppe Meazza Stadium is filling up fast ahead of the national team’s return on Thursday, November 12 (8:45 p.m.) for the final Nations League group-stage match against France, led by Zinédine Zidane. A total of 40,500 tickets have already been issued for the match against Les Bleus, in which Italy will be looking to earn points to secure a place in the tournament’s quarter-finals. Tickets can be purchased at authorized Vivaticket outlets and on ticketing.figc.it, with discounted rates for families, children under 12, under-18s, over-65s and university students. On May 15, 1910, the national team played its first historic match in Milan against France: the game at the Arena Civica ended 6-2 in favour of the Azzurri, who ten years later, on January 18, 1920, beat Les Bleus 9-4, recording their biggest victory in any of the matches played in the Lombardy capital. The second city after Rome to have hosted the highest number of national team matches (64, with a record of 39 wins, 19 draws and 6 defeats), and home to the Italian Football Federation from 1905 to 1911, Milan has seen Italy play at four different venues: the Arena Civica, the Velodromo Sempione (demolished in 1928), the Campo Milan on Viale Lombardia and the San Siro Stadium, named after Giuseppe Meazza on March 3, 1980. The national team will return to the Meazza one year after its 1-4 defeat to Norway in the final match of the World Cup qualifying group and two years after its 1-3 loss to France in the Nations League. Italy have lost their last three matches played in Milan, where the Azzurri maintained an unbeaten run spanning almost a century, exactly 96 years: from the 1-2 defeat to Hungary in January 1925 to the 1-2 loss to Spain in October 2021.
