Rome, 27 Oct. (LaPresse) – Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Jorge Jesus’s provisional squad for Portugal’s upcoming Nations League matches against Denmark and Wales, as confirmed by *A Bola*, after the news was initially reported by the newspaper *O Jogo*. The national team captain’s inclusion in the provisional squad comes as no surprise, nor does it guarantee his selection, but it was a necessary condition for his return to the national team, after he left the training camp ahead of the match against Denmark, having warmed up but not taken to the pitch against Norway. Ronaldo was provisionally suspended and subsequently handed a 30-day ban by the Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation, but the suspension will end before the start of pre-season training for the next two matches. The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) usually sends clubs preliminary lists of around 50 players, which must be submitted well in advance of the announcement of the final squad, in accordance with FIFA regulations. In other words, around half of the players on this initial list will not be included in Jesus’s final squad. In any case, the door remains open for a possible return by Ronaldo. With four wins from four matches, Portugal have already secured qualification for the Nations League quarter-finals and need no more than a single point to mathematically secure top spot in the group.
