Rome, October 30 (LaPresse) – “We are only at the tenth match of the season. Last season taught me that a derby may not necessarily be decisive. We have to accept that it is a Serie A match, with three points always at stake. It can give one team a great deal and take something away from the other, but often that is not the case. Milan beat us in the first derby last season and then lost to Lazio, when everyone thought the title race had reopened. What always matters is taking things one match at a time and maintaining consistency throughout a long season.” Inter coach Cristian Chivu said this on the eve of the derby against Milan. “It’s a derby, and many other factors come into play, such as pride, extra determination and the desire to make the fans happy. You know that if you don’t win, certain things come up that you would rather not have to deal with, but there is a long way between words and actions. Given who we are, our growth, and the way we manage frustration and energy, we need to be at our best tomorrow,” he added. “There are no favourites in derbies. You find the energy in motivation and in the pride of winning a match like this. The pressure is on everyone. We know what it means to lose a derby and what winning one can give you. In any case, we must not burden ourselves with too many things that drain our energy,” the Romanian coach stressed.
