Indian Wells (California, USA), Nov. 7 (LaPresse) – Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini are returning to the WTA Finals for the third time, with this year’s edition scheduled to take place in Indian Wells from November 8 to 15. The Italian duo secured qualification by defeating Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls in the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Tokyo, the last event counting towards the Race, in what was effectively a playoff for the final available spot at the Finals. “It has been a long journey. We managed to qualify at the last tournament, in the very last match. We are absolutely delighted,” Sara Errani said in an interview with the WTA. “There were many times when we doubted whether we would make it,” explained Paolini, who will be making her third consecutive appearance in the doubles competition at the Finals. “The Tokyo tournament was complicated because even the early rounds were extremely important: if we had lost in the first round, we would have been out. From the very beginning, we knew that tournament would determine who would come here to Indian Wells. So it was a somewhat stressful week. It was a rather unusual period, but at a certain point we told ourselves: we have to reach the final. If we make the final, we are guaranteed to qualify for the WTA Finals. We did it, and the following day was fun because we were much more relaxed.”
