The number of civilians killed in the operation by Syrian security forces against the Alawite community in the coastal cities of northwest Syria has risen to 1,225. This is according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reports that "the number of massacres on the Syrian coast and its mountains has reached 47 since the escalation triggered by the March 6 attacks by Alawite militants against the Syrian Interior and Defense Ministry forces, leading to killings, summary executions, and ethnic cleansing operations." These events are part of widespread revenge operations against members of the Alawite minority, which includes the ousted president Bashar Al-Assad, involving mass killings, house burnings, and forced displacements.
