Denver, Apr 11 (LaPresse) – Colorado's Democratic governor, Jared Polis, has signed a law requiring citizens to pass a background check and complete a state-authorized safety course to purchase most semiautomatic weapons with removable magazines.
Colorado has witnessed some of the worst mass shootings in the country. The state now joins nearly a dozen others that require safety training for purchasing a firearm.
The measure signed on Thursday is the most restrictive approved in the state as part of a long Democratic campaign to reduce gun violence.
Republicans opposed the law, arguing that it would violate the rights granted by the Second Amendment.
