Madrid (Spain), 20 May (LaPresse) – In Spain, a fault in the Telefónica network, caused by maintenance work, has led to interruptions in the national fixed network, affecting the 112 emergency services in several autonomous communities, including Aragon, Andalusia, Extremadura, Navarre, the Basque Country and the Valencian Community, among others. The news was reported by Spanish media outlets, including El País. At 10:30 this morning, Telefónica announced that emergency services communications had been fully restored, although some problems with fixed communications at some companies persist. ‘We have carried out some network upgrade work that has affected specific services at some companies. We are working to resolve the issue,’ said a Telefónica spokesperson, quoted by the Spanish newspaper. The incident may be related to the failure of Telefónica's MPLS network, which is the service provider for the 112 line and other three-digit telephone numbers that have experienced problems. Telefónica had scheduled maintenance at 3 a.m. this morning, and from that time onwards, some problems with outgoing calls began to occur. The fault was gradually resolved and shortly before 10 a.m., the emergency service had already been restored in several affected regions, including Valencia, Andalusia and Navarre. The Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function told El País that it was ‘monitoring the situation.’
