Council of Europe: "Italy to study racial profiling within law enforcement"

Rome, May 28 (LaPresse) – "In several European countries," there is "a growing phenomenon" where "police officers stop people on the street based on their skin color, their actual or presumed nationality, or religion. This goes against European values." This was stated by Tena Simonovic Einwalter, Vice-President of the ECRI, the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe. "Imagine how you would feel being stopped on the street for one of these reasons. Without having done anything," she added. President Bertil Cottier then emphasized a "specific recommendation" for Italy, namely to "conduct an independent study on the phenomenon of racial profiling within law enforcement."
