EU, Ribera: ‘At least €163 billion in damage from climate disasters in 2021-2023’

Brussels, 28 May (LaPresse) – "The cost of inaction is rising. I would say that every climate disaster we are not prepared for hits harder, imposes greater costs on our economy and causes greater social damage. So, thinking about climate-related economic losses in the EU in recent years, we estimate at least $163 billion in European territory for the period 2021-2023. This is yet another reason why we want to focus on promoting investment and prosperity, rather than dealing with losses and costs.‘ These are the words of European Commission Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, commenting on the assessment of national energy and climate plans. ’Science, climate action and the green agenda are good things for Europe.
