Tariffs: Trump publishes letters to Japan and South Korea, 25% starting August 1

It had been expected that starting today, the White House would begin sending letters to various countries outlining new tariffs.
For both nations, Trump cites ongoing trade imbalances. The letters warn Japan and South Korea not to retaliate by raising their own tariffs on imports, stating that if they do, the Trump administration will further increase tariffs on imports—potentially harming Japan and South Korea’s automotive and electronics sectors, two key partners for the U.S. in countering China’s influence.
