Milan, Sep 9 (LaPresse) – Protesters in Nepal have set fire to the Parliament building in Baneshwor. Earlier, demonstrators also torched the main gate of Singha Durbar, the complex in Kathmandu that houses Nepal’s government offices and some ministries, according to local media reports. Security personnel continue to try to restore order. Led mostly by teenagers and young adults, the protests have exposed broader resentment in Nepal, where many people have grown increasingly angry at the government over corruption and frustration with nepotism in politics. The protests, described as a Generation Z uprising (typically defined as those born between 1995 and 2010), are largely a response to last week’s social media ban and the government’s broader push to regulate social platforms via a bill requiring companies to register and submit to local oversight and regulations.
