Middle East: IDF opens new evacuation corridor to southern Gaza

Jerusalem, 17 September (LaPresse/AP) – The Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesman, Colonel Avichay Adraee, wrote on social media that a new route has been opened from noon today and for two days for those heading south from Gaza City. An estimated 1 million Palestinians lived in the Gaza City area before evacuation warnings began ahead of the offensive, and the Israeli army estimates that 350,000 people have left the city. The UN estimates that more than 238,000 Palestinians out of an estimated 1 million living in the city have fled northern Gaza in the last month. Hundreds of thousands more remain.
