Milan, Sept 18 (LaPresse) – The Attorney General of Spain, Alvaro Garcia Ortiz, has authorized an investigation to determine whether Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute “serious violations” of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, which would constitute crimes under articles 607 (genocide) and following of the Penal Code. This is stated in a Prosecutor’s decree obtained by the Spanish broadcaster RTVE. The investigation was requested on July 28 by Dolores Delgado, coordinating prosecutor of the Division for Human Rights and Democratic Memory. The investigation will involve the Chief Prosecutor of the National Court, Jesús Alonso, and the specialized prosecutor for International Cooperation and must be reported to the International Criminal Court. Delgado had opened a case on June 5 after receiving a report from the General Commissioner for Information of the National Police regarding actions carried out by the Israeli army against civilians in the Gaza Strip that could violate international law.
