Vatican City (Vatican), 20 September (LaPresse) – For Ukraine, Pope Leo XIV ‘is a man of hope’. Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk told Avvenire, adding: ‘Today, the country looks to Leo XIV with confidence. It thanks him for his appeals for peace and for his efforts.’ Recalling St. John Paul II’s visit to Ukraine in 2001, the Deputy Prime Minister then returned to the possibility of talks with Moscow: ‘We are ready to resume negotiations,’ she said, ‘because no one more than Ukraine desires peace.’
