Middle East, Macron announces recognition of the State of Palestine

New York (USA), Sept. 22 (LaPresse) – Emmanuel Macron has announced the recognition of the State of Palestine. “France declares that it recognizes the State of Palestine in the interest of peace,” said the French president during his speech at the High-Level Conference on the Two-State Solution currently underway at the UN. “The time has come. This is why, faithful to my country’s historic commitment in the Middle East, for peace between Israelis and Palestinians, I declare that today France recognizes the State of Palestine,” Macron stated. The decision follows those of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and Portugal, which formally recognized the State of Palestine on Sunday, drawing strong criticism from Israel. Several other nations are expected to declare their support throughout the day.
