Frankfurt (Germany), September 29 (LaPresse) – “We, the leaders of the Weimar Triangle, have closely followed the parliamentary elections held in Moldova on September 28. We congratulate the Moldovan people for their strong commitment to democracy at this crucial time.” This was stated in a joint statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the parliamentary elections in Moldova. “We commend Moldovan society and authorities for the peaceful conduct of the vote, despite unprecedented interference from Russia, which attempted to influence the process through vote-buying schemes and disinformation campaigns. These hybrid attempts, aimed at undermining democratic institutions and the country’s European path, were unsuccessful: once again, Moldovan voters have shown they are unwilling to give up their future of peace and freedom,” the statement continued. “We renew our commitment to supporting Moldova’s democratic development, reforms, and economic growth, strengthening its resilience, particularly on its path to joining the European Union. The EU and Moldova share a common future,” Merz, Macron, and Tusk concluded.
