Gaza, NYT: ‘Agreement is Trump’s path to the Nobel Peace Prize’

Washington (USA), 9 October (LaPresse) – The announcement that Israel and Hamas have accepted the first phase of the plan for Gaza could be Donald Trump’s ‘path to the Nobel Peace Prize’. This is according to David Sanger of the New York Times, reiterating the opinion already expressed by Times columnist Thomas Friedman. ‘For Trump, success in this endeavour is the ultimate proof of his self-defined goal as mediator and peacemaker, and the path to the Nobel Peace Prize he has so openly desired,’ writes Sanger, who believes the US president is one step away from the ‘greatest diplomatic achievement of his second term,’ even if peace in the region is still far from guaranteed. ‘If the peace plan goes ahead, Trump may have as legitimate a claim to that Nobel as the four American presidents who have won the peace prize in the past, albeit with less fanfare and pressure,’ Sanger adds.
