Milan, 10 October (LaPresse) – Every year, the Nobel Committee receives thousands of letters and makes its decisions in a ‘room full of courage and integrity’, basing its decisions solely ‘on the work and will of Alfred Nobel’. This was how the chairman of the Nobel Committee, Jørgen Watne Frydnes, responded to a journalist who, after the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize being awarded to Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado, asked a question about Donald Trump having repeatedly said he wanted to win the prize. The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize goes to a courageous and committed champion of peace: a woman who keeps the flame of democracy alive in the midst of growing darkness. This is what we read in the motivation for the award given to Venezuelan María Corina Machado. The prize was awarded “for her tireless work to promote the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”.
