Milan, 11 October (LaPresse) – “It is a great responsibility. It is a commitment not only to Venezuela, but to the whole world. It weighs heavily on me, I am just one among millions, it seems a little unfair that everything is focused on one person when we have political prisoners, nine million exiles, thousands of murders, more than 20,000 extrajudicial executions since Chávez came to power. This is a country that has given its very life for freedom. I consider it a recognition of Venezuelans at the most important moment in our republican life.” These are the words of Maria Corina Machado, Nobel Peace Prize winner, in an interview reported by Repubblica. Machado had a “private” conversation with US President Donald Trump in recent days: “We Venezuelans are deeply grateful to President Trump. He has firmly and correctly understood the nature of the regime we are facing”. And to Maduro she says: “You have the opportunity to achieve peace, leave immediately for the good of Venezuela”.
