Philippines: 7 dead and 22,000 evacuated due to tropical storm Fengshen

Manila (Philippines), 20 October (LaPresse/AP) – Tropical storm Fengshen hit the northern region of Luzon in the Philippines late on Sunday evening, killing at least 7 people and forcing over 22,000 to leave their homes. This is the 18th storm to hit the Philippines this year. According to government weather forecasts, the storm is currently accompanied by sustained winds of up to 65 km/h and gusts of up to 80 km/h. The Philippines, located between the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea, is hit by about 20 typhoons and storms every year. It is often affected by earthquakes and has about 20 active volcanoes, making it one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.
