Bangkok (Thailand), 25 October (LaPresse/AP) – Queen Mother Sirikit of Thailand, a beloved and influential figure who for decades promoted projects in favour of rural communities, traditional crafts and environmental protection, died on Friday at the age of 93. The announcement was made by the Royal Household Bureau in Bangkok. According to the statement, the Queen died in hospital after contracting a blood infection on 17 October. Despite the efforts of doctors, her condition did not improve.
