Frankfurt (Germany), Oct. 27 (LaPresse) – The German tour operator Tui has suspended the sale of stays at the Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel, renamed by the media as the ‘Hamas Hotel’. “We are currently not offering trips to this property,” a spokesperson told Bild. The decision comes after an investigation by the Daily Mail, according to which 154 Hamas members, recently released from Israeli prisons following a peace agreement, were temporarily hosted at the luxury hotel. The hotel management confirmed the presence of the militants but specified that they are no longer there. Guests of the hotel reported that Hamas members moved freely through common areas, from the restaurant to the swimming pool. Among them was said to be Mahmoud Issa, one of those responsible for the kidnapping and killing of Israeli police officer Nissim Toledano in 1992. The Renaissance Cairo Mirage City is part of the Marriott International chain, which has not commented on the matter. Lufthansa, which regularly accommodated its flight crews at the hotel, has also announced it will relocate its crews to other hotels as a precaution. According to Bild, neither Tui nor Lufthansa had been informed by the hotel about the militants’ presence, a circumstance that has caused significant discontent among the German airline’s pilots and flight attendants.
