Ukraine, Zelensky to Trump: ‘Sanctions are good, but long-range missiles are needed for peace’

Milan, 27 Oct. (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a telephone interview with Axios on Sunday that US President Donald Trump’s new sanctions will damage Russia’s war machine, but that Ukraine still needs long-range missiles to force Vladimir Putin to make peace. In the interview, Zelensky said the sanctions ‘will make a difference,’ but suggested that Putin will not change his position unless Trump increases the pressure. “President Trump is concerned about escalation. But I think that if there are no negotiations, there will still be escalation. I think that if Putin doesn’t stop, we will need something to stop him. Sanctions are one of those weapons, but we also need long-range missiles,‘ Zelensky continued, adding: ’We’re not just talking about Tomahawks. The United States has many other similar weapons that don’t require much training time. I think the only way to work with Putin is through pressure.”
