IDF Chief: ‘Yes to external commission of inquiry on 7 October’

(LaPresse) – The Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, Eyal Zamir, has said he supports the establishment of an external commission of inquiry into the Hamas attack on 7 October, after the army conducted its own internal investigation. This was reported by the Times of Israel. ‘The report presented today by the team of experts represents a significant step towards a comprehensive understanding, which is necessary both as a society and as a system,’ Zamir said in a statement released alongside the findings of the panel of experts that examined the IDF’s investigation of 7 October. ‘However, to ensure that such failures never occur again, a broader understanding is needed, including inter-organisational and cross-level interactions that have not yet been analysed. For this reason, a comprehensive and thorough systemic investigation is now required,’ he added.
