Washington (United States), 10 November (LaPresse) – A bipartisan agreement has been reached in the US Senate to end the shutdown. Eight Democratic senators were instrumental in achieving this result. In one of the votes, the first in a series of mandatory procedural manoeuvres, the Senate approved a compromise bill to fund the government and hold a subsequent vote on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits expiring on 1 January, with 60 votes in favour and 40 against. Final approval could take several days if Democrats oppose or delay the process. The agreement does not guarantee the extension of the Affordable Care Act (known as Obamacare) healthcare subsidies.
