India: Police arrest several suspects in Kashmir after explosion New Delhi

Srinagar (India), 12 Nov. (LaPresse/AP) – Indian security agencies have arrested several suspects in the disputed region of Kashmir as part of the investigation into this week’s car explosion in New Delhi near the “Red Fort”, which killed eight people and injured several others. The authorities have announced that they are investigating the incident as a possible act of terrorism, a move that gives investigative authorities greater powers to arrest or detain people. The Red Fort, a major tourist attraction, is a 17th-century monument and the place where, every year on 15 August, the Indian Prime Minister delivers his Independence Day speech. If confirmed as a deliberate attack, it would be the deadliest explosion in the Indian capital since 2011. At least five people were detained for questioning in a series of night raids in the southern district of Pulwama, Kashmir, police officials said on Wednesday. Police did not comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
