Rome, 12 November (LaPresse) – There is still a long way to go before an agreement can be reached between Syria and Israel. This was stated by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in an interview with the Washington Post after his meeting with Donald Trump at the White House. ‘To reach a final agreement, Israel would have to withdraw to its pre-8 December borders,’ he added. Al-Sharaa argued that Israel’s operations in Syria are due to ‘expansionist ambitions’ and not security concerns. The Damascus leader also said that US President Donald Trump has declared his support for the Syrian position on Israel’s withdrawal and that he ‘will press as quickly as possible to reach a solution.’
