Milan, Nov. 12 (LaPresse/AP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for the resignation of the ministers of Justice and Energy following the corruption scandal involving the state nuclear company Energoatom. Zelensky urged the prime minister to dismiss Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk. “I believe that the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Energy cannot remain in their positions. It is, above all, a matter of trust. If there are accusations, they must be addressed. The decision to remove them from office must be immediate, as swift as possible. I have asked the Prime Minister of Ukraine to have these ministers submit their resignations. I call on members of the Verkhovna Rada to support these statements. And then everything should proceed according to the law,” Zelensky wrote on X. Earlier this morning, Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko announced the suspension of the Justice Minister for the duration of the investigation. The case follows the arrest of five people and the identification of seven other suspects by Ukraine’s anti-corruption agency in a major investigation into alleged bribes worth around $100 million in the energy sector. The agency accuses them of corruption and abuse of office.
