United Kingdom: more accusations for the BBC, “Newsnight” allegedly tampered with Trump’s speech

Turin, 13 Nov. (LaPresse) – New accusations for the BBC. The Newsnight programme allegedly edited a speech by Donald Trump to make it appear that the president had made a more explicit call for violent protest before the riots at the Capitol. The British broadcasting group is already reeling from the resignations of Director-General Tim Davie and BBC News Director Deborah Turness, which came after Trump’s same speech was edited in a similar way in an edition of the programme “Panorama” last year. According to the White House, Trump has since filed a billion-dollar lawsuit in a Florida court. The BBC is considering how to respond to the legal action. The Telegraph reported that it had found a 2022 edition of Newsnight that contained a similar edit of the speech. It did not appear that the editing had alerted viewers to the cut.
