Taiwan, Beijing: “No promise to renounce the use of force”

Beijing, Nov. 17 (LaPresse) – “We are willing to make every effort to achieve the peaceful reunification of both sides of the Taiwan Strait, but we will never promise to renounce the use of force, nor will we allow any form of separatist activity for Taiwan’s independence,” wrote the Chinese embassy in Japan on X, cited by the Global Times. “We will make no compromise or concession to external interference and reserve the right to take all necessary measures,” added Beijing’s diplomatic representation. The post serves as a warning to Tokyo following statements on November 7 by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who said that any use of force by China in Taiwan would represent “a threat to Japan’s existence.” Beijing warned: “If Japan dares to interfere in China’s great cause of unification or use force in the Taiwan Strait under the pretext of an ‘existential threat,’ it would constitute an act of aggression, and China would undoubtedly respond with a strong blow.”
