Taiwan: China protests strongly with Japanese envoy over Prime Minister Takaichi’s remarks

Milan, 18 Nov. (LaPresse) – During today’s consultations in Beijing between the Director-General of the Asian Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Liu Jinsong, and the envoy from Tokyo, Masaaki Kanai, Director-General of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Office of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China once again lodged a strong protest with Japan over the words of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. This was reported at a press conference by a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning, responding to a question on the matter, adding that Liu emphasised to the Tokyo envoy that ‘Takaichi’s fallacious statements seriously violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations, seriously undermine the post-war international order, and blatantly contravene the “one China” principle and the spirit of the four political documents between China and Japan’. On 7 November, Takaichi said that China’s use of force in Taiwan could pose ‘a threat to the survival’ of Japan, calling for the use of force, sparking Beijing’s anger.
