Ukraine, Axios: Trump’s Plan Includes Recognition of Crimea and Donbass as Russian

Washington (USA), Nov 19 (LaPresse) – According to Trump’s plan for ending the war in Ukraine, the United States and other countries would recognize Crimea and Donbass as legitimately Russian territory, but Ukraine would not be required to do so. This is revealed by Axios, reporting that the plan also includes limitations on the size of the Ukrainian army and its long-range weapons in exchange for security guarantees from the United States. According to Axios, the plan would grant Russia parts of eastern Ukraine that it currently does not control, in exchange for a U.S. security guarantee for Ukraine and Europe against future Russian aggression. The 28-point Trump plan would give Russia de facto full control of Donbass, although Ukraine still controls about 12% of the territory. Even though under Russian control, the areas in Donbass from which Ukraine would withdraw would be considered a demilitarized zone, with Russia unable to deploy troops there. In two other war-torn regions, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, current lines of control would remain mostly frozen, with Russia returning part of the territory, subject to negotiation.
