G20, Meloni: “The challenge is to build a more just and equitable future for all”

Johannesburg (South Africa), November 23 (LaPresse) – “No one can presume to have the right or definitive answer to the most complex challenge we face: building a more just and equitable future for all. But I think we can learn from our mistakes. The thesis that the invisible hand of free trade and globalization would only bring benefits to humanity has proven to be somewhat utopian, to put it mildly. Today, we can perceive the vulnerabilities, inequalities, and strategic dependencies that this process has generated, which we have long sought to ignore. According to the World Bank, ‘1% of the population has captured 41% of all new global wealth since 2000, while the poorest half of humanity has received just 1%.’ These are pitiless numbers, but—let’s be optimistic, let’s say—it could be worse.” This was stated by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, speaking at the latest session of the G20 leaders’ meeting underway at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, which focused on critical minerals, jobs, and artificial intelligence.
