Israel: Netanyahu submits request for pardon to Herzog

Rome, 30 November (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has submitted a formal request for clemency to President Isaac Herzog, according to Israeli media reports. Amit Hadad, Netanyahu’s lawyer, said that acceptance of the request ‘will allow the Prime Minister to devote all his time, skills and energy to Israel’s progress in these critical times and to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.’ Furthermore, the lawyer added, ‘granting the request will help heal the rifts between different sectors of public opinion, paving the way for an easing of tensions, all with the aim of strengthening the country’s national resilience’.
