Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Dec. 1 (LaPresse) – Partial results of the presidential elections held in Honduras show conservative candidates Nasry Asfura and Salvador Nasralla in the lead, while the ruling party, the socialists of LIBRE (Liberty and Refoundation), trails behind. With about 34% of the votes counted, the National Electoral Council reports that Nasry ‘Tito’ Asfura, leader of the National Party, has received 40.63% of the votes, while Salvador Nasralla, head of the Conservative Party, has reached 38.78%. Further behind is Rixi Moncada of the socialist Liberty and Refoundation party, with 19.59%. A few days before the elections, U.S. President Donald Trump officially endorsed Asfura, the 67-year-old former mayor of the capital Tegucigalpa, stating that he would fight the “narco-communists” alongside the United States and that he would be the only Honduran candidate with whom his administration would cooperate.
