Milan, Dec. 1 (LaPresse) – NATO is considering taking more decisive responses toward Russia, including the possibility of carrying out a preventive strike, in response to cyber operations, sabotage, and airspace violations by Russia. This was confirmed by Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, head of NATO’s Military Committee, in an interview with the Financial Times. “We are evaluating everything; on the cyber front, we are quite reactive. We are considering the idea of being more aggressive,” added the Italian admiral, also suggesting the possibility of a “preventive strike,” which could be seen as a “defensive action,” even though this approach “is far from our normal way of thinking and behaving.” In recent years, European countries have faced a series of hybrid incidents, including cyberattacks, suspected sabotage linked to Russia, and repeated cases of damage to submarine infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. “Being more aggressive in response to the aggressiveness of our counterpart could be an option,” concluded Cavo Dragone, emphasizing that the issues are “the legal framework and the jurisdictional framework: who will do it?”
