EU, Federica Mogherini among three arrested in SEAE fraud investigation

Brussels, 2 December (LaPresse) – Among the three people arrested as part of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office investigation into alleged fraud in the use of EU funds for training programmes is the rector of the College of Europe and former High Representative for Foreign Affairs (2014-2019), Federica Mogherini. This was reported by the Belgian media outlets Le Soir and L’Echo, citing reliable sources. The investigation concerns suspicions of favouritism and possible unfair competition in the EEAS’s awarding of a nine-month training programme for future European diplomats to the prestigious College of Europe. The alleged offences date back to the period 2021-2022 and, according to the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, the possible charges include: “fraud in the award of public contracts, corruption, conflict of interest and breach of professional secrecy”.
