Floods in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand leave over 1,200 dead and 800 missing

Batang Toru (Indonesia), Dec. 2 (LaPresse/AP) – The death toll from the catastrophic floods and landslides that have hit Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Thailand has risen to over 1,200, with more than 800 people still missing. Days of heavy monsoon rains have flooded vast areas, leaving thousands of people stranded and many clinging to rooftops waiting for help. Rescue teams are working to reach survivors and recover more bodies. In Indonesia, the country hardest hit, the death toll stands at 631, with 475 missing. In Sri Lanka, 390 people have died and 352 are missing, while in Thailand, 181 people have died.
