Brussels, Dec. 3 (LaPresse) – The European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) has rejected the request to lift immunity for Democratic Party MEP Elisabetta Gualmini, while recommending that the request be granted in the case of Alessandra Moretti (also of the Democratic Party), with both lawmakers implicated in the Qatargate investigation. LaPresse learned this from parliamentary sources. For Gualmini, 7 members voted in favour of the report calling for immunity to be lifted, 16 voted against and 1 abstained, while for Moretti 16 voted in favour of the report, 7 against and 1 abstained. The European Parliament will now vote on JURI’s recommendation at its next plenary session from 15 to 18 December. The President of the European Parliament will then inform the requesting authority and the MEP concerned of the outcome. The draft report becomes public one day before the plenary vote.
