Honduras, arrest warrant issued for former president pardoned by Trump

Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Dec. 9 (LaPresse) – The attorney general of Honduras, Johel Zelaya, has ordered the authorities and asked Interpol to execute a 2023 arrest warrant against former president Juan Orlando Hernández. Hernández was pardoned by U.S. President Donald Trump and released from federal prison in the United States last week. He had been sentenced to 45 years for helping to transport cocaine into the United States. Zelaya shared a photo of the order, signed by a Supreme Court magistrate, for alleged fraud and money laundering. Hernández’s wife had said that he was in a secret location for security reasons. Trump said that Hondurans had requested the pardon, believing that Hernández had been treated unfairly by prosecutors.
