Brussels, Dec. 9 (LaPresse) – “When it comes to sanctions, frozen assets or Ukraine’s accession to Europe, of course this concerns Europe. And when others have doubts about whether to continue supporting Ukraine or to give up on Ukraine, we continue to support Ukraine unwaveringly. We will not do in Ukraine what others did in Afghanistan. We will continue to support Ukraine.” This was stated by European Council President Antonio Costa at a press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin. “We, the European Union and its Member States, have been Ukraine’s main supporters from the first day of this war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine. When we talk about peace, we speak not only of ending hostilities, not only of a truce, but of a just and lasting peace that ensures Ukraine’s future security and also Europe’s future security. And that is why we are committed to supporting Ukrainian negotiators in these negotiations,” he added. “Part of the issue is, of course, that only Ukraine can make decisions as a sovereign state, and we must respect that,” Costa specified. “Territory is clearly a choice for Ukraine, and we must respect it. Other matters lie with the European Union, which is why we say: ‘nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, and nothing about Europe without Europe.’”
