Ukraine, Tajani: ‘Italy in favour of indefinite freeze on Russian assets’

Heidelberg (Germany), 12 December (LaPresse) – “Italy is in favour of stabilising the situation. We will vote in favour, and then a political debate will open in the Council on the best way to help Ukraine. We have always said that we had some reservations, not so much about the political choice as about the legal basis for the use of frozen assets. There may also be another instrument to finance Ukraine, to provide guarantees that must then naturally be excluded from public debt. So it is an ongoing debate.” This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on the sidelines of the EPP meeting in Heidelberg, Germany. “In the meantime, Coreper has voted to freeze the assets, then we will see what will be done and the Council will decide. Given that Italy wants to help Ukraine, the issue is more legal than anything else,” Tajani added.
