London, Dec. 12 (LaPresse) – The UK Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, told junior doctors that strikes and the rise in flu cases during the Christmas period could be “the Jenga piece” that forces the National Health Service to collapse. Streeting said that the NHS is facing an “unprecedented challenge since the start of the pandemic” and urged junior doctors to accept the government’s offer and end their actions. “The entire NHS team is working around the clock to keep everything running. But the situation is incredibly precarious,” he wrote in an article in The Times, “Christmas strikes could be the critical Jenga piece that makes the tower fall. That’s why I am directly addressing junior doctors to accept the government’s offer.” NHS data published yesterday showed that flu cases have reached a record level for this time of year, after a 55% increase in one week, with an average of 2,660 patients hospitalized each day last week.
