Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Dec. 13 (LaPresse) – Cambodia has announced the closure of its border crossings with Thailand, completely suspending all entry and exit movements, as tensions rise between the two countries. “In light of recent developments along the border, during which the Thai side committed acts of aggression against Cambodia’s sovereignty through indiscriminate attacks, causing casualties among Cambodian civilians as well as damage to residential areas and physical infrastructure, the Ministry of the Interior of the Cambodian government informs the national and international public that the Cambodian government has decided to fully suspend all entry and exit movements at all border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand, with immediate effect and until further notice,” reads a statement from the Interior Ministry.
“This decision,” the statement continues, “was made to ensure the safety of Cambodian citizens, Thai citizens, and foreign nationals of all nationalities, particularly those crossing the border.” Yesterday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire, but Thai officials denied having accepted it, and Cambodia did not comment on his statements.
