Chile, Kast, ‘The country needs order, we will restore the law’

Milan, 15 Dec. (LaPresse) – ‘Chile needs order: order in the streets, in the state, in the priorities that have been lost. Order is not a whim.’ This is what Chile’s president-elect, José Antonio Kast, said in a long victory speech following the results of yesterday’s ballot in the South American country, in which he defeated left-wing candidate Jeanette Jara. In his speech, Kast cited his policy points on fighting crime, but did not strike his usual caustic tone. When his supporters interrupted him to boo Jara, he silenced them and asked for ‘respect,’ a considerable change from his attitude during the election campaign. ‘Chile wants change, it does not want continuity, and it has said so loud and clear on several occasions. And I want to tell you that yes, Chile will have real change, real change that you will soon begin to feel,’ Kast promised.
