Rome, 21 December (LaPresse) – “Ukraine remains fully committed to achieving a just and lasting peace. Our shared priority is to stop the killing, ensure security and create the conditions for Ukraine’s long-term recovery, stability and prosperity. Peace must not only be a cessation of hostilities, but also a dignified basis for a stable future.” This was written on social media by US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, reporting on the meetings that took place in Miami with the delegation from Kiev. ‘Ukraine deeply appreciates the leadership and support of the United States and the continued close coordination with its partners in the next stages of this important work,’ he added, speaking of ‘productive and constructive’ talks. Witkoff then explained that at the US-Ukraine summit, attention “focused on four key documents: the further development of a 20-point plan, the alignment of positions on a multilateral security guarantee framework, the alignment of positions on a US security guarantee framework for Ukraine, and the further development of a plan for the economy and prosperity.” Particular attention, he added, was devoted to discussing the timing and sequence of the next steps. Previously, the two delegations had held another meeting, which was also attended by ‘leading European national security advisers’, in order to ‘align on a shared strategic approach between Ukraine, the United States and Europe’.
