Turin, 28 December (LaPresse) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed to his government ministers that the Rafah crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt be opened to allow entry and exit, but the proposal was rejected by his far-right coalition partners. This was reported by Channel 12, according to which, on the eve of his flight to meet with US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu proposed at a meeting of government ministers to allow two-way traffic through Rafah. According to the broadcaster, Netanyahu presented the measure as a way to show Trump that Israel is committed to moving towards a ceasefire in Gaza. The terms of the ceasefire include the opening of the crossing. However, the prime minister withdrew the proposal after Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir opposed it.
