Venezuela, Maduro arrives at court in New York

Milan, 5 January (LaPresse/AP) – Nicolas Maduro arrived at court in New York, where he was transferred from Brooklyn prison. Strict security measures were put in place around the Manhattan courthouse for the transfer. The motorcade carrying Maduro left the Brooklyn prison at around 7:15 a.m. local time, approximately 1:15 p.m. Italian time, and headed for a nearby sports field, where a helicopter was waiting for them. Television footage from above showed Maduro getting out of an SUV and slowly walking towards the helicopter under the escort of armed guards. After a short flight, the helicopter carrying Maduro landed at a heliport in Manhattan near the courthouse. He got out of the aircraft, limping slightly. The journey from Lower Manhattan to the courthouse was quick, and the vehicle carrying Maduro entered a courthouse garage at around 7:40 a.m. local time. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are expected to appear before a judge at noon local time, 6 p.m. in Italy.
