North Korea, Seoul: ‘Xi asked to act as mediator with Pyongyang’

Milan, 7 January (LaPresse) – South Korean President Lee Jae Myung reported that he asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to play a mediating role on the Korean peninsula, including on the issue of North Korea’s nuclear weapons. This was reported by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, explaining that Lee made this statement in Shanghai after holding a summit with Xi in Beijing on Monday as part of his ongoing state visit to the country. ‘There is something I asked the Chinese side,’ Lee said during a lunch with journalists accompanying him on the trip, ‘I would like China to play the role of mediator in matters relating to the Korean peninsula, including the North Korean nuclear issue.’
